Women in Olney & Fern Rock: Olney Collab Celebrates Mosammet Rita

Olney feels like home to Mosammet Rita because of its diversity. She appreciates the many different kinds of food along 5th Street and the kindness of the people she meets. The community’s friendliness and support mean a lot to her, and the steady flow of customers always brings her joy. Rita especially admires the women of Olney, describing them as strong, determined, and hardworking. She encourages women in the community to focus on their careers as well as their families, to take care of themselves, be independent, learn to manage their own finances, and remain open to continued learning.

Like many business owners, Rita faces challenges, sometimes dealing with disrespectful customers. She overcomes these moments by staying calm, showing respect in return, and responding with a positive attitude. A memory that touched her deeply was during Small Business Saturday, when the community came out in full support, visiting her store and offering heartfelt compliments about her business.

Rita believes the best way for women to make a difference is by avoiding judgment of others, staying focused on their own goals, and working hard trusting that their efforts will one day pay off. If she could spend a day in Olney with no obligations, she would visit the food stores, shopping centers, and nail salon, and make a stop at La Baguette to enjoy their pie and coffee.
